The General Insurance Association of Singapore is the insurance industry's member association. It aims to promote and advance the common interests of members and the general insurance industry.
The GIA consists of 31 general insurance companies operating in Singapore.
It functions through an annually elected Management Committee comprising the representatives of eight insurance companies, four of which must be local.
The Management Committee acts as the decision-making body of the Association and its instructions are devolved to Standing Committees, as follows:
- Agents' Registration Board
- Motor Committee
- Workmen's Injury and Personal Accident and Health
(WIPAH)
- Property and Marine Committee
- Statistics and IT Committee
- Regional Development Committee
- Special Risks Pool
The GIA aims to promote and advance the general insurance industry in Singapore by:
- Fostering public confidence in and respect for the insurance industry
- Representing members' interest to Government, trade bodies, similar associations and bodies in other industries
- Establishing a sound insurance structure and promotion of greater efficiency within the industry
- Promoting education and training in all aspects of insurance
- And by being a good corporate citizen.
The GIA was formed in 1965 when Singapore became an independent republic.
